To “be generous” is to show a readiness to give more of something, as in money or time, than is strictly necessary or expected.
The Bible often challenges us to examine ourselves relative to our generosity. Additionally, each time we are reminded about the less-than-ideal conditions in other areas of the world we see just how “rich” we really are and how much we have available to give.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is your power to do it. (Prov. 3:27 ESV) Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. (Prov. 11:24-25 NLT)
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. (1 Tim. 6: 17-19 ESV)
Let us accept the challenge and be generous!
