Both our youth and adults have started new Bible classes this month. While attending Bible class on Sunday morning and Wednesday night requires an investment on our part, we must understand Bible class is an opportunity to be obedient and gain knowledge!
Is growing a command? II Timothy 2:15-16 plainly says, “ Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babbling for they will increase to more ungodliness.” The Bereans provide the model for answering this question in Acts 17:11, “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”
Why should a Christian Study? Many eternal outcomes result from studying, learning, and applying God’s Word. First, we learn in Romans 10:17 this is where our faith begins, “So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” We hear God’s Word when we make an effort. Hearing God’s Word creates the opportunity to understand God’s Word is the standard! II Timothy 3:15-17 tells us the Holy Scriptures make us wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus, all Scripture is for instruction, and Scripture thoroughly equips us for every good work!
What will it cost you? If we neglect the words of our Lord will we be prepared for judgement (John 12:48)? If we do not study, will we be at risk for falling away (1 Corinthians 10:11)? Choosing to spend time in study will cost you very little but if we spurn the invitation we will have no way of knowing what God expects of us. This is one price we don’t want pay! Let’s all make an effort to attend not only worship but also Bible study! I will see you in class!
