Watching the violence & pain our society continues to endure the last few days, I’m reminded of the song “A Little Good News” which Anne Murray began singing in 1983. The song describes how “the news” can only report the bad things going on because that’s all we see around us. The song sends the message we all long to hear “a little good news today.” We see people hurting, confused, and struggling to find answers to unsolvable problems. We turn to politicians, mental health experts, and pundits from various backgrounds. Ultimately, we can turn to Scripture for Good News!
Each day we are challenged with death, dying, and suffering. II Cor. 5:4 says, For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Life’s challenges are painful and expected.
Knowing suffering is part of life helps us become more patient. Rom. 12:12 says, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. Our uphill battles can become bearable provided we realize we can be patient because of the comfort we have in Christ.
Tears, pain, and death are all around us, especially when we look at our social media accounts, turn on the TV or catch up on the day’s events. We must remember what we are told in Rev. 21:4, And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.
As we cope with challenges, we are assured more are on the horizon. I, like you, can always use a “a little good new today.” The Bible is the best place to start!
