Last weekend a group of 54 had the privilege to attend the Challenge Youth Conference in Pigeon Forge, TN. We were a small part of the 12,500 total number of people in attendance. The series of lessons that were presented focused on the concept of “Storms.” We were able to listen to many great and relevant lessons presented to the audience by the likes of Lonnie Jones, David Shannon, Kyle Butt, and many other wonderful speakers.
I personally am amazed every time we have an opportunity to attend events such as CYC because it is such an amazing experience to be able to worship and learn about God amongst so many other brothers and sisters in Christ. I am able to see and get to know others that may be struggling with the same things I struggle with. I am able to receive encouragement from those that I meet and from the lessons presented by the speakers. What a wonderful opportunity our youth and several adults had.
We were able to hear lessons on topics of how we react to storms, the reign of darkness (sin), after the storms come, and many other topics. One of the major things that I learned from these lessons was from a specific quote from one of the speakers, “Everyone is either heading into a storm, in the midst of a storm, or leaving a storm in their life.” The more I have thought and reflected on this quote, the more true I believe it is. The major point we should learn from this quote is we should be prepared at all times for storms in our lives. The only way we will be able to weather many of the storms we encounter in our lives is to be a part of the body of Christ. The Church, God’s Word, and God himself are the best ways to weather those storms we may be facing.
A huge thank you goes out to the elders of South Green St. Church of Christ for supporting and giving us the opportunity to attend events like Challenge Youth Conference. Thank you also to all the adults that helped tremendously the entire weekend. Without you all, this weekend would not have been possible. Lastly, thanks to all the youth that dedicated an entire weekend to learning about and worshiping our Lord and Savior.
