I believe I can say with confidence that the biggest story in the world this minute is the announcement made by Joe Biden that he is dropping out of the upcoming race for President of the United States.
It is huge news indeed and sends shockwaves throughout our country.
But I am not concerned here in this space with politics. We will not discuss the “ins and outs” of his decision.
I want to use this significant occasion to encourage you. I want to encourage you to keep going.
Keep running.
Sometimes in politics you need to step down. Sometimes at work you need to retire.
Life can be hard! People can be despicable! Diseases can be physically & emotionally debilitating!
However, there is never a good or proper or fitting time to walk away from the Lord.
As difficult as things might get, do not drop out of the race.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. (Hebrews 12:1-3)
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
Politicians can drop out of the race…Christians cannot.
Never give up! Stay faithful! Heaven will be worth it!
