The article below appeared in our bulletin on Monday, June 1, 2015! I dug this article out for “reprint” as a reminder of how blessed I am to be allowed to serve at South Green St. and to highlight how many opportunities continue to exist for us to grow in so many ways! Note: I made a few editing changes, but the content and enthusiasm displayed when I wrote the article eight years ago are still alive today.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity our Elders have afforded me to serve as the Associate Minister for our congregation! I have made this statement many times the last few years, “It is an exciting time to be part of the South Green Street church of Christ.” God has blessed us tremendously. We have working Elders, serving Deacons, and preaching Preachers, teaching Teachers, and growing Members!
Our Elders continue to feed the flock (Acts 20:28), watch out for our souls & seek to keep each member safe (Matthew 18:12), guard against false teaching (Matthew 7:15), and take care of the church (I Peter 5:2). The leadership of our Elders continues to allow us to grow both numerically and spiritually!
I have many activities planned for the upcoming months that will allow us to build on our numerical and spiritual growth. We are blessed with many, many talented individuals at South Green who have a positive influence not only in the church, but in our community. We can use our diverse talents to reach out to the lost in our area locally (Matthew 6:33).
I look forward to working and growing with you. Your support has always meant so much to me—-I thank you for that. I thank God for His rich blessings, our Elders for the opportunity to serve our congregation, and I am thankful to Amy, Ellie, and Asa for always supporting me in everything I do. Please pray for me as we begin this journey together. Please contact me by email at allenjones_88@yahoo.com or you can call or text me at 270-670-8345. Please let me know how I can serve you! “
How much have we changed in eight years? I think back to those we have lost due to death and I think back to those we have lost to the world. I think back to those we have gained because they were looking for a church home and I think of those we have gained because they were looking for Jesus. Life continues to “happen” and we can’t control as much as we want, but we can react as a Christian if we are grounded in the truth, walking with Jesus, and living as pilgrims and not as permanent residents! What does the next eight years hold in store? No one knows, but I do know our future is as bright as the promises of God. This is why I’m excited, STILL!
