When I got my first full-time job in 1995, I treated myself to a kinetic watch. Unlike traditional watches, it doesn’t have a battery; instead, it harnesses energy from movement. As long as I keep it moving, it keeps working. However, as I received new watches over time, this one ended up in the back of a drawer. Eventually, it stopped working due to lack of movement.
This illustrates our faith. When we actively seek Christ, grow, and serve, our faith thrives—we can say, “Our faith is working.” But when we become stagnant, our faith suffers, and we might feel, “Our faith is not working.”
Believing with all of your heart in Christ and His Word involves action! John 3:36 says, ““He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe in the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” Furthermore, our actions are a result of our obedience.II Thessalonians 1:7-9 says, “and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,”
Life’s challenges can distract us and slow our spiritual movement. In I Corinthians 15:58, Paul urges us to be “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,”” reminding us that our efforts for God have lasting impact. This movement strengthens our relationship with Christ, plants seeds of the Word, and leads others to Him.
A few days ago, while organizing my drawer, I found my old watch. I moved it, and it started working again. If you’ve let your faith take a back seat, now is the time to seek restoration, repent, and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).
Movement may be challenging, and restarting our faith isn’t easy, but it begins with a single step. Remember, you won’t walk alone—never replace your faith; Christ is all we need. Our faith is built on Christ. May we never stop growing and moving!
