Philippians 2:12-18 Teaches us we how we can be light bearers for Christ while giving our all for Him. I would encourage you to read this passage along side this article.
1. What is required of me? Paul writes that those who read his words demonstrate personal responsibility when it comes to the work of the church, interactions with one another, dealing with the world, and spiritual growth. Scripture reveals salvation does not “reside in “faith alone,” but in action.
2. What is our focus as Christians? We are to focus on Christ. In terms of our “Christian Vision,” we should constantly be asking ourselves, “Am I being submissive in my thoughts, actions, and planning?” Our answer to this question will determine our level of obedience to Christ!
3. How can I reflect with reverence? As we continue on our journey with Christ, Paul makes it plain we are metaphorically looking in a mirror. We are to seek a path that expands the borders of God’s Kingdom, not erect walls to keep the lost out.
Being poured out requires us to:
• Run our race without murmurings (1 Cor, 10:10)…
• Strive to be “blameless” (free from legitimate fault)…
• Be “harmless” (do not harbor corruptive attitudes & behavior)…
• Be unique because we are not “crooked” or “perverted” (morally twisted)…
• Be seen as lights, reflectors, or luminaries of Christ in a very dark world…
We cannot “save up” as we would money in a bank when it comes to our service to Christ! Paul had given sacrificially in his service to the Lord. Paul is not only encouraging his Philippian brethren to join him with “giving all for the cause of Christ,” he is imploring us as well! Let us ask, “How can I be poured out for Christ?”
