We can see division & dislike for others in our society. The challenge to love others may exist in our community, workplace, or family for one reason or another. Scripture accurately & carefully guides us when it comes to how we are to love others.
How can we love? Galatians 5:13 says For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. We love by serving others! We are striving to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We know the lost doesn’t care how much we know until they know how much we care. Our care for others is reflected in our actions.
How do we love our enemies? Matthew 5:44 says But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. We are not to be abused, harmed, or intimidated by those we oppose morally or socially. But we must strive to show love to those who we oppose us or dis- agree with us!
How can we express love for others? I Corinthians 13:4-7 says Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy, love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoke, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth, bears all things, endures all things. We express love by being patient, staying away from evil (sin), and overcoming barriers that may prevent us from loving others.
How can we reflect God’s love? I John 4:12 says No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. When we love others, we demonstrate our love to the One who created all of us!
