Actually, we have experienced some form of quarantine for closer to 5 weeks as a nation. COVID-19 has impacted all of us differently. It seems we all have been given a little more time to reflect on our lives and the future. Some are calling this the “Great Pause.” What are we doing to improve physically, spiritually, financially, emotionally, etc. during this season of life? When our quarantine is lifted, what will we do differently? If we have developed good habits such as home devotionals, checking on our friends, neighbors, developing our priorities, will these practices remain? Or will we return to all the activities we realized that were not essential?
A well-known news anchor became infected with COVID-19 recently and made comments publicly during his time of reflection while being sick. He said “I don’t want to spend my time doing things that I don’t think are valuable to me personally.” When asked to explain further, he said, “Like what? Well, I don’t like what I do professionally, I’ve decided.” Of course, the news anchor has used his time to reflect on his job and feels the need to reevaluate his life.
Are we spending our time in a way that causes us to rethink how we should be serving our Lord? Ephesians 5:15-17 says, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Wayne Jackson reminds us, “When society is so evil and time passes so quickly, the wise use every moment to gain strength and to glorify God. The Christian must cherish every opportunity for good, buying them up like precious commodities. Make your time on earth count!” While we have time, let us reflect, review, and rejuvenate ourselves in our service to God.
