Rahab is a well-known character from biblical history. She appears briefly, though prominently, in Joshua chapters 2 and 6.
She is a key player as the children of Israel prepare themselves to do battle and enter the promised land of Canaan.
She protects the Israelite spies from being discovered. In turn, she and her family are protected when Israel invades Jericho.
Rahab is mentioned just three times in the New Testament.
Let us make just one observation—consider just one key idea from each of these occurrences.
Matthew 1:5—from Rahab to David in four generations
Lesson: Redemption and changes are possible!
Rahab went from being “known” for immorality—to being “known” for being included in the divine lineage of Jesus!
What we are known for can change as well.
Thanks to the love and power of Jesus, we can be forgiven and change.
Like Rahab, we can be known for being a part of the family of Jesus (Luke 8:21).
Hebrews 11:31—Rahab stood out from the rest of the disobedient city
Lesson: Have the courage to stand alone!
Evidently, the rest of the city wanted to destroy the spies rather than help them.
Rahab had heard the same stories as the rest of her fellow citizens of Jericho.
She had seen the same evidence.
However, her heart was changed to one that longed to submit to and follow the Lord.
She was strong and courageous in that she sought to be a part of the plan of God even if the entire rest of the city refused.
James 2:25—Rahab acted
Lesson: Faith has the courage to act!
It is one thing to make claims and say you believe, it is quite another to something.
We are NOT justified by faith alone—our works (our actions) must be those that make it clear & plain that we love Jesus and belong to Him.
What do our actions say about us?
Do we display a faith that is strong and courageous?
