You may have heard me mention Amy’s dad from time to time in lessons or conversations. I love being around him for many reasons, but I really like being around him due to his ability to speak “one liner after one liner” in most situations. One of my favorites is “Life Is Too Short and Life Is Too Long.” On the surface, this statement seems contradictory. I’ve heard him say this when someone is wrestling with a difficult situation in life and trying to make a decision as to what to do next. We must remember on one hand life is short but on the other, we are allowed to have some time on earth, and we should make the best use of our time in our service to the Lord. When making decisions or dealing with difficult situations we must first realize:
- Life is short – James 4:14-15 says whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. We must not put things off. Our priorities must reflect our relationship with Christ.
- All that we do has an impact – Ephesians 5:15-17 says See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Everyday counts! We have an opportunity to take full advantage of reflecting and introducing Christ to others.
- Our relationships with others matter – Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. It is difficult to live in harmony with every single person that we cross paths with, but we are expected to make every effort possible to create the opportunity for peace.
Realizing our time is finite, our activities create influence, and rapport with others have Godly expectations should move us to improvement. Life is too short, and life is too long.
