“Parents that treat the church as optional, shouldn’t be surprised when their children treat Jesus as unnecessary.” ~Unknown
“Going back to school ” is once again upon us! In our part of the world, August always means “school” will soon be starting! Education was always important to my parents, especially my father. My father always made sure I had the necessary tools to start the school year. He made sure I had a plethora of notebook paper and packs upon packs of yellow #2 pencils. And, I always knew he loved me.
Having one child in college and another entering his senior year of high school, back to school shopping looks a little different for us, but the concern we have for their success remains the same. We all want our children to be successful, but more importantly, we need to make sure they are growing spiritually. As we send our children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews back to school, may we provide them with supplies, but also provide them with a connection to Christ. Our children need:
- Knowledge- Hosea 4:6
- Preparation- Ephesians 6:13-17
- Protection- Matthew 22:37-38
- Proper training in the Lord- Deuteronomy 6:5-9
- Proper teaching- Isaiah 59:2
- Priorities- Matthew- 6:24
- A desire to know the will of God- Romans 12:1-2
We must understand the challenges our children are facing. Our children need us to respond so they can remain resilient and walk with Christ! Let us fill our kids with Bible knowledge, prepare our kids for challenges, model proper priorities of life, and teach our children the proper portrait of God!
