Making Peace

Scripture is clear: The Lord expects us to be peacemakers.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matt. 5:9)

“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” (Rom. 12:18)
So how might this be accomplished? Practically speaking, what would this look like?

Four biblical acts that make for peace:

(1) The Golden Rule (Matt. 7:12)

Treat others the way you’d like to be treated—not how you feel they deserve.

Give others the benefit of the doubt, seeking to place yourself in their shoes. I know I would like To receive leeway, grace, and understanding if I was “not myself” due to some unusual life circumstance.

(2) Turn the Other Cheek (Matt. 5:38-42)
Try saying “thank you” or “I appreciate your input” the next time someone points out a fault.

(3) Pray for the Difficult (Matt. 5:43-47)
It is not easy to remain “at war” with someone we are earnestly praying for.

(4) Choose Words Carefully (Prov.15:1, Col.4:6, James 4:6)

Tongue biting is much better than tongue lashing.
