Growing old with obedience is both a blessing & pleasing to God! I once read, live the best life you can because when you are old, your memories will allow you to do it again. The meaning here is living a life for Christ means living a life without regret. We don’t want to reach our twilight years and our memories only provide us with images of heartache because of severed relationships, the inability to out live our mistakes, and our refusal to repent which creates earthly & eternal separation from our Creator.
Why is old age a blessing for the obedient? Psalm 92:12-15 says, “ The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”
We know permanent security is enjoyed by the faithful, regardless of age. We know the faithful will continue to “grow like a cedar.” Some of the best Preachers, best Bible class Teachers, and hardest working servants in God’s Kingdom are those of much years!
The older Christian who grows & is obedient declares enjoyment in God’s perfect faithfulness and righteousness. The world wants us to put our stock and trade into secular success and material attainment!
Do you want to be faithful & pleasing to God today AND when you are old? Begin today by declaring the Lord is upright, he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
