In the commentary entitled The Seed Principle, Sowing the Life of Your Dreams, Aubrey Johnson reminds us the importance of planting the right type of seeds from the messages we receive. Aubrey gives us these three ideas when it comes to primary beliefs: “All sorts of ideas are spread through the media, Internet, pulpit, classroom and by word of mouth. The challenge each person faces is selecting a basic set of beliefs that will produce the best life possible. Although you make many decisions during your lifetime some are definitely more important than others.” We will “become” what “we think we will become.” We need to put “first things first” when it comes to developing & growing our relationship with Christ.
Jude 3 says, Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. What we believe does matter, makes a difference in our life and should determine our conversations. Aubrey points out, “Jude understood that beliefs make a difference in the quality of a person’s life and his eternal destiny.”
What does our basic system of beliefs do for us if it is rooted in Scripture and lived out with love? Our decision making will improve and our ability to make speedy choices will be evident. We will not go down the wrong road nor will we will be bogged down with indecisiveness.
When planting and nurturing our seeds of belief, let’s make sure we stay on the path God intends for us to stay on. Jeremiah 6:16 says, Thus says the Lord: Stand in the ways and see. And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it. Let’s respond and not rebel.
