Matthew 8:23-27 says Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
1. We see Jesus and His disciples entered a boat.
2. A violent storm came upon on the waters and waves poured over the boat.
3. The boat began to take on water and His disciples began to panic and cry out as danger approached.
4. Jesus was asleep during the commotion and impending danger.
5. When he woke up by the pleas, the Lord gently, but firmly questioned their faith.
6. We see the One who made the world can control His own creation (John 1:3).
7. Our faith should not only be strong and immovable because of our relationship with Him, but because of His sacrifice for us.
We all have storms in our life. Sometimes, we may feel as though the water is just inches away and is about to overtake us. Our fears are calmed when we seek Him by submission and worship. Let us remember Christ’s sacrifice is why we have safety. May we remember Jesus brings peace because of His promise. Storms will continue to rage and water may fill our boat, but may we never stop turning to Jesus!
