There is something special about standing at the edge of something new.
Anticipation…Hope…Wonder…
As we enter the first week of a brand new year, we stand at the edge of something new. A year full of opportunities and possibilities. What will we do? Where will we go? What will we learn? What will the Divine Potter do with us, His clay vessels?
I am reminded of occasions in biblical history when God’s people were nearing new phases in the scheme of redemption…
Moses before the Tabernacle was ready
· Can you imagine the way Moses must have felt when he was shown that all the work had been completed? (Exodus 39:32-43)
· Then, the anticipation must have been off-the-charts once the structure had been assembled. (Exodus 40:16-33)
Solomon before the Temple was ready
· As you read 1 Kings 5-8, the excitement builds with each item listed and put into place.
· They knew this was a special occasion (cf. 1 Kings 8:5), and they couldn’t wait to see what the Lord would do.
The Disciples together on Pentecost
· They had been told to wait in the city until they were “clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
· What must it have been like to be in that room on Pentecost before the Lord fulfilled His promise and filled them all with the Holy Spirit? (Acts 2:1-4)
The New Testament Church today
· We should be excited to see what the Lord has in store for His people (Rom. 8:24-25).
· We should be filled with wonder as we consider that we serve a God who can bless beyond our imaginations (Eph. 3:20-21).
