What is success? Some look at success as reaching a milestone in their life such as graduating high school or college. Others might look at success as obtaining great financial gain. While even others describe success as how famous or well known one becomes. Many teens would describe success as the number of followers they have Twitter or Instagram. Success may be defined or described by the world in a vast array of ways.
But as Christians, we need not to look upon this world to find success. We should be looking to our goal of Heaven as our definition of success. Our focus of success should be on getting to Heaven and being able to influence as many others in getting to Heaven.
Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
In Psalm 119:59-60 “When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies; I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments.” Here we see a pattern for achieving success.
1. Reflect on what you are doing (v.59a). We must be aware of our actions. If we are doing things against God’s will, we must correct those actions and choose to follow His ways.
2. God must be the source in our lives (v.59b). We must lean on Him for our sustainability. We must let His Word be a lamp and a light to lead our ways.
3. We must not delay (v60a). We must not put off following God and doing His commands. The perfect time to follow God is always NOW.
4. Keep God’s commands (v.60b). We must always be following God’s commands in our lives in order to be successful.
Success can be described by many different people in a variety of ways. I hope and pray your success is defined as a reward one day in Heaven.
