We are aware of the damage caused by the recent hurricanes. We have read several instances where hurricane victims reached out to the local church for help. An Elder in Vidor, Texas stated, “This is the best thing that every happened to the church in Vidor. People are seeing the love the church has for everyone. 2500 contacts have been made, you would never get that door knocking.” This statement says a lot!
The church is to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. Hebrews 13:16 says But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. People find themselves in difficult circumstances. These challenges may result from poor choices in life or due to natural disasters. Either way, we are to do our best to treat both sets of people the same. God doesn’t expect less!
The church is to be known where people can learn about Jesus. Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. We need to be people looking for someone who are searching to fill a void in their life. When people knock on our door, we should reflect Christ, not turn a cold shoulder.
The church is to do good to all men. Galatians 6:10 says Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all especially to those who are of the household of faith. Serving everyone in their time of need provides maximum opportunity to remove physical barriers & build Scriptural conversations.
When challenges arise or disaster strikes, are we willing to respond as God would have us to?
