The Promise of The Rainbow

The recent rains have brought record breaking rain to our part of the world. This is not news to anyone! Lives and property have been lost along with businesses and homes being impacted for months and months to come. It is an understatement to say that much rebuilding will be taking place.

During the rain event recently, we had a short break of a few hours and the sun popped out. I was walking in the back door of our home and Amy was facing our backyard looking over my head as I was walking in. I could tell by the expression on her face, she was overwhelmed with something that I was unable to see. As I slowly turned around, I quickly saw what was astonishing her. I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful rainbow that seemed so close to use we could touch it. We both grabbed our phones and took several pictures and then sent this wonderful scene to friends and family.

The rainbow brings so much comfort! Genesis 9:13-15 says, “I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; will remember My covenant which Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.”

•  Here, we see God’s faithful nature as He keeps His promise even through the storms of life.

•  As the rainbow is a symbol of God’s promise we are also reminded that Christ is the fulfillment of God’s covenant with humanity. 2 Corinthians 1:20 teaches us that God’s their fulfillment in Christ, indicating that the Old Testament Scriptures should be read as pointing to Christ.

•  When we look to the sky and see the rainbow which provides hope, we are reminded that Christ provides assurance.

Looking back at that at moment in time a few days ago, not only did I see why Amy was impressed by the rainbow, but I now look at the rainbow with encouragement.
