We all have worked or labored so much that we don’t even have the energy to sleep. Maybe we are challenged by the burdens of this world (health, relationships, finances, grief/loss). The point is this, we sometimes become so drained physically or emotionally, we simply don’t have the mental capacity to relax and “rest.” Chances are, you are reading this and are concerned, worried, or dealing with something that is tiring you to the point of exhaustion that you want to collapse. Last spring when I was battling back issues, trying to work, and participate in physical therapy sessions, I remember coming home and falling in the bed or on the couch from exhaustion, but couldn’t find rest. We all are looking for respite. Out of all the things we turn to for rest, let’s remember, Jesus provides true rest.
Matthew 11:25-30 says, At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
If we are willing to learn from Jesus, love Him more than anything, and submit to the Lord, we will truly understand the Savior’s riches! Jesus teaches the “rest” He provides is relief. When we labor for the Master, we take His yoke which allows us to bear our burdens. We know our troubles aren’t going away soon, but we don’t have to bear them alone. When we are tired, let’s turn to Jesus!
