Just as you, I have attended several funerals recently of friends & family, as well as, brothers & sisters in Christ. Leading up to the memorial, we often read a snippet of our loved one’s life in the local newspaper. The last several weeks has lead me to this question, “What will they say about me?”
Will they say I believed Jesus Christ is the King? John 18:37 says, “Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
Will they say I was obedient to the Lord by my love for Him? John 14:15 tells how we demonstrate our love for the Lord, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Will they say I was faithful to God’s Kingdom by my actions? I Corinthians 15:58 tells us to constantly strive to expand the borders of the Kingdom, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
Will they say I was a fruit bearer by teaching God’s Will to others? II Timothy 2:2 directs us teach, “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
Will they say I was a good example for my family & those around me by walking in the light? “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Someday will be the last day for all of us. My obedience to Jesus Christ and my submission to the will of the Father will determine what they will say about me. Nothing anyone can say will matter if I haven’t lived a Christian life!
