When We Suffer

Psalm 46 is one of those passages that has the power to lift our spirits and to make us feel better immediately. It can change the way we view all of life. Specifically, it can change the way we view our problems and heartache.

According to this passage, there are at least three things we should remember when we suffer:

1. We must remember the presence of God (Ps. 46:1-3).

• While my pain is real, it is not beyond God’s reach because He is there. We do not suffer alone.

2. We must remember the power of God (46:6-9).

• He takes raging seas and makes them quiet streams. He sees, hears, and acts on our behalf.

3. We must remember to praise God (46:10-11).

• Even in times of chaos, we must pray, read, think, assemble, and give glory to God.
